World Hemophilia Day 2026
The World Hemophilia Day theme, “Diagnosis: First Step to Care,” highlights the essential role of early and accurate identification in guiding appropriate management. FWGBD is committed to supporting healthcare providers through education and resources that improve recognition of blood disorders in women and girls. However, gaps in diagnosis persist, particularly in hemophilia, where women and girls remain underrecognized in clinical practice.
Women with hemophilia, and even those with the gene, experience symptoms men don’t, including:
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Postpartum hemorrhage
- Extended procedural or surgical bleeding
This World Hemophilia Day, FWGBD encourages healthcare providers to:
- Consider hemophilia in women and girls presenting with bleeding symptoms
- Apply consistent diagnostic evaluation, including factor level assessment
- Move beyond limiting terminology that may delay diagnosis
- Prioritize early and accurate identification as the foundation for care
