Program Description: 

This state-of-the-science Webinar will detail and disseminate current best practices on the use and management of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) in women of reproductive age, with special considerations for young women/women who experience or are at risk of experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB). The Webinar will provide information regarding the appropriate approach to the identification and counseling of appropriate patients for intrauterine contraception; provide guidance on proper placement; review special considerations to keep in mind while working with women who experience irregular and/or heavy menstrual bleeding; and to provide insight when collaboration with a hematologist may be necessary.

At the conclusion of this Webinar, participants will be able to: 

• Understand the importance of, and apply to practice, assessing and monitoring patients for the identification of appropriate patients for intrauterine contraception
• Describe the proper placement of intrauterine contraception
• Discuss the effectiveness and safety of intrauterine contraception in young women/women, especially those women who are at risk for or experience heavy menstrual bleeding
• Review the anticipatory guidance needed prior to initiation of the method
• Discuss best practices regarding pre-medication, insertion and post procedure for LNG-IUS
• Discuss ways in which collaboration with hematology augments management
