It is with deep sadness FWGBD shares with our community the unexpected passing of Dr. Lynn Malec, a distinguished clinician, researcher, and advocate whose contributions significantly advanced care for individuals with bleeding disorders.
Dr. Malec was a long-standing member of the WGBD Learning Action Network and a valued leader within our community. Throughout her career, she championed innovation in clinical care and research, always centering her patients. Her commitment to advancing care for women and girls with blood disorders closely aligned with FWGBD’s mission and helped strengthen our collective impact.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lynn was a loving mother and wife, generous colleague and friend. Many in our network had the privilege of collaborating with her, learning from her, and witnessing firsthand her commitment to improving outcomes for patients and families. Her insight, warmth, and steady leadership will be profoundly missed.
“Our hearts are heavy with this loss,” said Dr. Kerry Funkhouser, Executive Director of FWGBD. “Lynn brought such intelligence, humor, and genuine warmth to everything she did. She impacted our community in so many ways. We will miss her dearly, and will always be grateful for the impact she had on all of us.”
We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Malec’s family, colleagues, and all who were touched by her work. We are grateful for her lasting contributions to our community.
