FWGBD
PO Box 1358
Montclair, New Jersey 07042-1358
Please note 'Donation' in the check remarks. Gifts of cash might entitle you to a charitable income tax deduction, depending on your income level. We will send a letter acknowledging your donation within five business days of check receipt.
Gifts of Stocks, Bonds or Mutual Fund Shares
Gifts of tangible assets such as stocks, bonds or mutual fund shares may entitle you to a charitable income tax deduction, depending on your income level, and may also lower your estate taxes by removing the asset and its appreciation from your estate. If you are interested in making a donation of a tangible asset to the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders, please contact Ann-Marie Nazzaro, Executive Director of FWGBD, at (646) 265-7489 for more information.
Charitable Distributions from Your IRA
Congress passed the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 that permanently extends the provision that allows IRA owners age 70½ or older to directly transfer up to $100,000 from their Traditional or Roth IRA to an eligible charity such as the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders.
As a 501(c)3 charity, amounts transferred from your IRA to FWGBD are excluded from your gross income. The Qualified Charitable Distribution can be used to satisfy any required minimum distribution (RMD) that you must otherwise receive from your IRA. This provision applies to IRA holders as individuals, so a married couple may be able to move up to $200,000 out of your taxable estate each year, as provided by legislation.
Ask your IRA custodian for their required Distribution Form so you can make your Qualified Charitable Distribution. Please contact Ann-Marie Nazzaro, Executive Director of FWGBD, at (646) 265-7489 to assist with the transfer to FWGBD.
Bequests
A bequest to the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders through your Will or by naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of your Qualified Retirement Plan or IRA is a powerful way to demonstrate your commitment to caring for women and girls affected by blood disorders.
- Wills: Naming the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders as a beneficiary in your will allows you to give a gift that is private, not payable until after your lifetime and can be changed or revoked at any time. You might also recognize estate benefits as a result of this gift. And, it allows you to support our mission and make a difference in the lives of future generations of women and girls. Please see the section titled Sample Language for Wills and Beneficiary Designations for important information you will need when naming the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders as a beneficiary in your will.
- Qualified Retirement Plan or IRA: If you want to leave some or all of your qualified retirement plan (i.e., 401(k)), 503b and/or IRA assets) or life insurance proceeds to the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders, there are various ways to do this and good tax reasons for doing so. Most notably, this planned giving strategy helps you avoid two taxes that apply when people inherit retirement plan and/or IRA assets - income taxes and estate taxes - which together could consume up to 65% of a family's inheritance. The simplest way to make the gift is by naming the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders as the beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan, IRA or life insurance policy. When planning a future gift, it is sometimes difficult to determine what size donation will make sense to ensure both the charities of your choosing and your family members are recipients of your generosity. By naming FWGBD as beneficiary of a percentage of your estate (e.g. 10%), you ensure that your gift will remain proportionate among the charities of your choosing and your loved ones no matter how your estate's value fluctuates over the years. Please see the section titled Legal Designation & Tax ID for the important information you will need when naming the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders as a beneficiary of your retirement plan and/or IRA.
